The celebrated female mountaineer has done the impossible. Symbolizing empowered, strong and resilient female athletes in the country, Naila kiani summits Gasherbrum-1, 11th highest mountain in the world.

Only 3 weeks after her K2 summit. This is her third eight thousander in two years, all summited in first attempt.

BARD sponsored Naila Kiani - a Pakistani mountaineer and adventure sports enthusiast – summited Gasherbrum I at an 8,000+m peak in her 1st attempt on 12th August at 7am. Through her expedition, the female mountaineer has inspired competitiveness among Pakistani women, while also promoting gender equality in the sports community. Naila Kiani recently summited the second highest mountain peak in the world, the K2, making her the only Pakistani female to scale K2 in her first attempt.

"This was one of the most difficult tasks I have undertaken in my life and it has only been my passion for adventure sports and mountaineering that drove me to achieve this, It was even harder than K2, no rope on most technical sections made this almost an impossible feat.” exclaimed Kiani after her successful summit.

Expressing her delight in the care received she added, “I am humbled by the constant faith my nation and especially the mountain climbing community has shown in my efforts. The BARD Foundation has served as my guiding light through this time. Their unconditional support of my endeavours is a testament to their noble vision of enabling Pakistani sports enthusiasts.

Prior to this, Kiani summited the world’s 13th highest mountain, Gasherbrum II (8,035 meters) as well. She was presented with an award in December 2021 by the President of Pakistan, to acknowledge her great achievements and contributions to mountaineering, and continues to inspire global competitiveness among Pakistani women.
